Examinations and Rubrics should be discussed as a class so that the students understand what is being assessed. Various types of summative assessments should be used not just examinations. I believe that a huge project is better than an exam because as the student is creating and researching the information, he will remember it better. Students should be allowed to drop one lowest mark in terms of quizzes and laboratory assignments.

I want assessments to be based on learning and not focused on grades. I believe in de-emphasizing traditional grading. Every assignment does not need to be for marks, students need to take risks in order to learn and grow
Formative AssesmentsFormative assessments such as a learning journal or exit slips provide an insight into what the student has learned, what his areas of need are. By observing students and having conversations with them we can provide feedback to help them learn and grow. It also allows us to determine their scaffolding needs and whether we need a new way to teach a concept.

Self-Assessment Students should have the skill of metacognition because it is a great skill to have in the real world. In order to learn we must have the habit of being reflective of our actions and work. Self-assessments allows us to realize how much we have learned and grown.

Peer ReviewStudents need to learn how to provide constructive feedback to peers. Peer reviews allow students to share ideas as well as reflect on how their work and their peers work can be improved.
